Plunket Car Seat Rental Schemes - One of the key injury prevention areas the Plunket Society focuses on is child restraints. The Society provides restraints for hire from around 200 Car Seat Rental Schemes throughout New Zealand.
We provide information relating to:
* the law in New Zealand regarding child restraints;
* the standards of the Land Transport Safety Authority relating to child restraints;
* general information on child restraints;
* information on car rental schemes and prices attaching to them.
The Law states:
In New Zealand all children under five years of age must be in an "approved" child restraint. An adult safety belt is not considered to be a suitable restraint for a child under five. An "approved" restraint is one which is suitable for the age, size and weight of the child.
Standards - All restraints sold in New Zealand must meet one of several standards approved by the Land Transport Safety Authority. This means that when you walk into a retail outlet to buy a restraint, it has to meet the required standards.
Restraints available are: Infant restraints (birth-6 months) & Child restraints (6 months - 4 years). Prices vary a little depending on the area. A bond is charged in addition to rental, and this is refunded when the seat is returned in good condition. Seats are also available for short-term hire. Booster seats are also available from many rental schemes.
